3 Ways to Make Your Office Lunch More Eco-Friendly
What we eat should not only nourish our bodies but the environment as well. Eating meals on the go or outside of our homes leads to much waste- whether food or packaging- but there are simple ways you can make your meals more eco-friendly. And it all starts with lunch!
Reduce, reuse, recycle.
The best way to be eco friendly is to generate less waste. Stock your break room with reusable plates, cups, and utensils, and take it one step further by encouraging employees to bring their own cloth napkins they can take home to wash.
Ordering in? Opt for buffet style so employees can eat from your reusable dishware. If ordering individual serving sizes, find a corporate lunch caterer who serves in compostable packaging. They’re also more likely to provide a healthier lunch too!
And of course, be sure to recycle whatever you can.
Say goodbye to brown bagging it.
Brown bag lunches are full of single use materials from plastic baggies to the brown bag itself. Instead, find a lunchbox you love and fill it with reusable containers. Wash them at work after you finish your lunch to save time at home.
Order green.
When ordering out, ask for no utensils and bring your own. Many coffee shops also allow you to bring your own cup, and many offer a discount for doing so.
Take it to the next level and order from a Green Restaurant Association certified establishment, or check out a restaurant’s practices from packaging to ingredient sourcing. Getting your office lunches delivered is wildly efficient, but be sure the caterer has sustainable values.
Whether your meal plan includes delivery or homemade, there are easy swaps you can make to ensure your meals are eco-friendly.
